MEET THE BOARD

Sofia Mier
President

Meet Sofia Mier who is a senior at the University of Redlands majoring in Public Policy with an emphasis in Real Estate Development and a minor in Business Administration. Her goal is to continue working at the Cesar Chavez Foundation after college where she helps build low-income housing apartments in California, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. She also works at the University of Redlands as a Peer Career Educator where she helps students fix their resumes, cover letters, prepare for job interviews, apply for graduate programs, etc. She serves as the President for the 2021-2022 OCHYCC Board. Upon taking this role she leads the board, manages tasks, sets goals for the program, and works toward achieving them.

Fun fact: She loves traveling and trying new places to eat with her friends. She also loves to spend her time volunteering and hanging out with her Golden-doodle Sparky.


Jose Del Castillo
Vice President

Meet Jose Del Castillo, our Vice President at OCHYCC. He is a junior majoring in Physics at the University of California, Irvine. His goal after graduating is to continue his education and eventually work for NASA. As Jose works toward his goals, he wishes to help others work toward theirs. He hopes he can help many of them through this organization the way this organization has helped him.

Fun Fact: Jose popped his lung in high school.  


Daisy Lagunas
Secretary

Meet Daisy Lagunas, our secretary at OCHYCC. She is a senior majoring in marketing at Cal State Fullerton. Her goal after graduation is to get a job, go to culinary school, and in the future open her own business. She is currently involved in LBSA and AMA.

Fun fact: She enjoys traveling, going to Disneyland, and baking.


Houston Santillan
Treasurer

Houston Santillan is a current undergraduate student majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance at California State University Fullerton. Houston’s goal after graduating from Cal State Fullerton is to pursue his CFA or CPA to create better opportunities in the finance and technology world. Houston aspires to pursue his MBA after a few years in the industry. Houston is the treasurer for the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce year 2021-2022.

Fun fact: He enjoys playing chess and card games.


Kevin Serrano
Co-Director of Ambassadors

Meet Kevin Serrano, a dedicated and promising student leader, who will be an inaugural Co-Director of Ambassadors for the Orange County Hispanic Youth Chamber of Commerce. He is a senior at UC Irvine, majoring in psychology. Currently, he serves as Affiliate Co-Chair at UC Irvine’s Student Outreach and Retention Center, supporting student-initiated outreach and retention projects. Kevin's post-graduation aspirations include pursuing a master's in higher education.

Fun Fact: He knows jiu-jitsu and loves running.  


Julian Castaneda
Co-Director of Marketing

Meet Julian Castaneda, our Co-Director of Marketing at OCHYCC. He is a junior majoring in marketing at California State University, Northridge. His goal after graduation is to grow his nonprofit, Bags of Love Foundation, into the biggest childhood cancer organization.

Fun Fact: He is left-handed! 


Gabriel Carpio
Co-Director of Community Engagement

Meet Gabriel Carpio, Co-Director of Community Engagement. He is attending California State University, Long Beach. He is majoring in accounting and graduates this May! His goals after graduation is to excel at his corporate finance position at Microsoft and actively mentor people of color to increase diversity in the tech industry. He is currently the VP of finance for the Associated Business Student Organization Council.

Fun Fact: He has been to Machu Picchu 3 times!


Raquel Ycaza
Co-Director of Community Engagement

Meet Raquel Ycaza, Co-Director of Community Engagement for OCHYCC. She is currently attending Cypress College and majoring in Environmental Science. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school and get an M.S. in Environmental Science. She hopes to work alongside businesses and legislators to make environmentally conscious decisions, taking steps towards sustainability. She is a member of the Stem^2 Program and Puente Program at Cypress College.

Fun fact: She was born in Miami.


Janelle Franco
Co-Director of Mentorship

Meet Janelle Franco, our Co-Director of Mentorship on our OCHYCC Board. She is a freshman at UCI majoring in exercise science and plans on obtaining a medical degree or PhD after graduation. She currently works as a Medical Assistant in a GI Clinic and as an undercover decoy in verification that merchants are not selling tobacco products to persons under the age of 21. Having had experience building her own initiative that focused on sharing social-emotional learning and epilepsy awareness she hopes to continue to build and expand her vision with the mentorship program to reach all of the youth in Orange County.

Fun Fact: Volleyball fanatic and Book Lover.


Alejandra Atilano
Co-Director of Mentorship

Meet Alejandra Atilano who is a senior at California State University, Long Beach majoring in Liberal Studies with a concentration in History/Social Sciences to become an elementary school teacher. Her goal is to become an educator in her native city of Santa Ana to promote academic excellence and develop a safe and empathetic environment for underprivileged students. She currently works at a Dual Immersion public charter school as a Bilingual Instructional Aide for TK and Kindergarten students. She serves as Co-Director of Mentorship for the 2021-2022 OCHYCC board. Upon taking this role, She aims to further expand the mentorship program by creating lasting professional and personal relationships between mentors and mentees.

Fun fact: She enjoys trying new places to eat with the people she loves.
